Georgia Child Support Division Receives 2012 Outstanding Program of the Year Award

August 30, 2012

ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Human Services, Division of Child Support Services (DCSS) has been named as the recipient of the 2012 Outstanding Program of the Year Award by the National Child Support Enforcement Association (NCSEA). The award is the highest honor that NCSEA can bestow and recognizes a program that has consistently exemplified the best in child support enforcement through an outstanding record of performance and in providing effective services to its constituency and its community.

"I applaud the Division of Child Support Services' employees for their work. Their efforts have helped more non-custodial parents become financially and emotionally supportive in the lives of their children," said DHS Commissioner Clyde Reese.

DCSS was recognized for simplifying processes at its offices statewide and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. The results of this work has decreased the child support enforcement process from 126 days to 60 days, and the amount of time to establish an order has decreased by 98.2 percent. The establishment of the Community Outreach Council was also commended. The goal of the Council is to put non-custodial parents to work and ensure child support payments.

"There is a national paradigm shift in child support and Georgia has been in front or on the leading edge of this shift by moving from being solely an enforcement agency to one that provides services that encourage parent involvement in the lives of their child(ren) and result in the payment of child support to non-custodial parents," said DCSS Director Keith Horton. "This award is a testament to all the exemplary work the child support team does for the children and families of our great state."
